Discovering Bologna with Car Hire

Everthing has been going to schedule since we got here on Friday. We couldn't get a booking for a room in Bologna so we stayed in the nearby village of Ferrara. We found a charming little restaurant in the centre of the town and filled our bellies with local favourites from the Emilia-Romagna region.

The next day we went on a little shopping trip to see what local produc we could find. The quality of the produce was amazing so we stocked up on some fresh fruit for our car hire journey to Bologna. The drive took about 40 minutes and was pretty enough for us to stop and take some photographs.

Bologna is a wonderful city, much under-rated in my opinion. There are lots of pretty buildings to explore and nice shops and restaurants. Of course Bologna is where Spaghetti Bolognese first originated, it's now one of the world's most favourite dishes.

Can't wait to explore more of the city!

Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii

We left Florence with our sights firmly set on discovering Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii. All in all the car hire trip took around six hours, but luckily we had beautiful scenery to gawp at along the way.

By the time we reached our hotel we were fit to sleep. Next morning, we got up early and got the ferry to Capri. Capri is a beautiful holiday destination. There are lovely sea views and picture-postcard backdrops everywhere you look. We even took a boat trip of the ‘green grotto’ and got some wonderful photographs of the famous sea caves.

Agfter all that sight-seeing we’d worked up an appetite and we were starving by the time we got back on the mainland. There’s nothing like a fresh stone-baked pizza to silence a rumbling tummy. We were so hungry that we even had room for dessert…mmmmmmmmm Tiramisu!! Over dinner, we began planning our trip to Sorrento and Pompeii.

'Disneyland' No Match for Rome Car Hire

I was just reading a very interesting article on the Argus Blog about proposals for a Disneyland type theme park for Rome. What is the mayor thinking?!

As any parent will know, no theme park is a match for a child's imagination! Having visited Rome recently with two little ones, I can safely say that Disneyland has nothing on the historical attractions to be found in the eternal city. The kids marvelled at Michaelangelo's upside down masterpiece in the Sistine chapel and were mesmerised by stories of gladiators in battle at the Colosseum.

Our Rome car hire allowed us to soak up the delights of the surrounding countryside too. If there's a petition to stop this development, I'd happily sign it!

A True Taste of Italy with Italy Car Hire

"When the moon hits your eyes like a sweet pizza pie that's amore!" We couldn't pass a touristy ristorante or pizzeria in Florence without a blast of Dean Martin's dulcet tones. In terms of eating out Florence was nothing like I'd expected, it was all so over-priced and I couldn't find anything that said "authentic Italian cuisine". Thankfully we'd rented a car so we were free to find our own version of what the local tourist industry wanted us to believe. We packed up the car at 11am and made our way past the madding crowds of the city centre. We stumbled upon a few small trattorias in the Tuscan hills. Now this was Italy. The pasta was fresh (not frozen), the pizzas were stone-baked (again not frozen) and the waiting staff seemed to be genuinely hospitable. With our bellies full, we headed back to the hills to discover the watercoloured landscapes and tunble-down castles and forts. There were some amazing picture-postcard views to be had here and we certainly ran up the memory card with shots of rolling farmland, sun-dappled vineyards and time-wizened olive groves. Had we not booked our Florence car hire, we would have been at the mercy of local guided tours with their scheduled stops and boring voice-overs. Argus Car Hire found us a fantastic deal. We only had to pay a small deposit to reserve our car too!

Discover Summer Again with Car Hire

August in Italy has been likened to hell, an oven, a sauna and every other simile that suggests it’s just too hot-don’t go! After the washout of a summer we’d been having, we figured anything would be better than enduring another week of torrential rain and thunderstorms. I decided that we’d embark on a tour of Italy. Rent a car in that heat? I know it sounds mad, but that’s what air conditioning was invented for! With enough luggage to last for a month, we boarded our “no frills” flight. Talk about baggage charges!!! I digress, anyway what we shelled out on two suitcases too many, we saved on our Pisa car hire. We booked our car rental with Argus Car Hire and got a great deal on a little Fiat. We paid a small deposit and the rest on arrival at the Pisa car hire pick-up desk. We packed up the car with all of our luggage, it was a little cramped I have to admit. (I actually could have gotten a full-size car for the same price, according to the Argus Blog).

Renting a car in Pisa allowed us to see a whole lot more than we would have been able to experience otherwise. Not only did we get to visit the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, but we also had access to many more attractions. From sleepy little villages to day-trips to Siena, we really made the most of our trip to Italy. The weather was more than bearable not to mention the fantastic food!

Italy Car Hire-The Best Way To See the Sights of Italy

There's nowhere quite like Italy for getting away from it all. The slow pace of life, the old-fashioned values and of course the delicious food. Italian food is famous for its fresh and wholesome flavours and there's no better place to sample the food than in traditional trattorias and pizzerias. From freshly cooked tortellinis to delicious pizzas you'll never go hungry in Italy. Then of course there's the wonderful hospitality. Italy is renowned for its warm welcomes, which you'll no doubt experience for yourself with Italy car hire.
People thought we were mad to book a car in Rome, what with all the stereotypes about hot-headed drivers beeping and revving their way around town, not to mention the waspish vespas zooming in and out of traffic. We went ahead anyway despite all reasonable protestations. After picking up the car from Argus Car Hire Rome Ciampino Airport, we were on our way to an adventure-and a half!

It was great to get away from all the usual tour groups. Guidebooks at the ready, we were free to do our own thing, discover history and culture away at our own pace. The best thing was were weren't confined to the city either, we got out in the open and experiences lost towns and villages. We visited the beautiful villas of Tivoli and the crumbling ruins of the port town of Ancient Ostia. We couldn't have enjoyed as many experiences, had we just booked a guided tour. Italy car hire offers so much in terms of potential. The pretty landscapes and beautiful backdrops mean that it's only a matter of time before we'll be heading back on a return journey!

After getting cheap Ryanair flights to Pisa, we found a great little apartment that would suit the four of us down to the ground. Luckily it was well within our budget. The only problem was that it would be a bit of a trek from the airport to our accomodation. It was then that the idea of car hire crossed our minds-with the extra money we saved on flights and accomodation, we could afford to splash out. We checked around the internet and found Argus Car Hire to be offering the best offers. Like a price comparison site, they show you a range of options that are within your budget and dates. We got a great deal on a Toyota Yaris.

We also had a lot more freedom than we would have had, had we relied purely on local taxi companies. Pisa is a great destination and we found al ot more to it than the famous leaning tower. Tuscany is brimming with charming destinations that are within easy reach with car hire. We would definitely recommend a day in the Chianti region, as well as San Gimignano and Siena.

Amazing Car Hire Deals In Italy

On a last minute whim we decided to take a chance on booking a 7 day break in Sardinia. After a little detective work, we discovered that our resort town of Alghero was fairly quiet and not high on fun and adventure. What could we do to liven up our destination? The answer was simple-car hire. Car hire Alghero Airport would allow us not only to avoid the crowded tourist transportation, but also give us the freedom to discover the island. Although our resort was stunningly pretty, there wasn't much to do but enjoy the scenery. Hopping in our little car, we were free to discover the beautiful vineyards of Sella and Mosca in the mountains, as well as the nearby historic town of Bosa. There was always the option of travelling to the richman's playground of the Smeralda Coast too, so we decided to save the voyage for mid-week. Visiting the Smeralds Coast, it's easy to see why celebrities and dignitaries flock here in the summer months. It's a beautiful place to party and there's always something fun going on. The marina is spectacular too. You'll definitely enjoy checking out the fancy yachts and shiny boats. At the moment, Argus Car Hire is offering Alghero car hire from just €28 per day- well worth it for all the extra travel options that car hire offers!

Car Hire Adventures Through Tuscany

On the trail of Frances Mayes, author of "Under the Tuscan Sun", with a trusty car hire Italy Fiat, I embarked on a journey through rolling vineyards and pretty watercoloured landscapes. Along the way, I encountered many wonderful sights-from Etruscan ruins to vibrant little mountain villages. Without car hire in italy, it would have been near impossible to enjoy such spectacles as age-old olive groves, sleepy one horse towns, as well as fragrant orchards and wild, flower meadows. The essence of the world-famous Dolce Vita was never far away, as long as I could drive there!

If you're looking to do the same, you'll find there are plenty of scenic routes to be found all over Tuscany, whether you're looking to capture the scenery on canvas or on film, it's always worth preserving your memories. You couldn't get more picturesque than an amber-hued villa surrounded by the vibrant green of poplar trees, or a beautiful scarlet sunset stretching across the sky. With cheap fares on offer from the likes of Ryanair and Easyjet, there's nothing stopping you from beating a path there yourself this summer!

Airline Deals From Ireland to Italy

I need something cheap and cheerful, a long weekend away before having a good holiday late in the Summer. I thought Italy might be good so I headed on over to two of Ireland's budget airlines Aer Lingus and Ryanair.

Aer Lingus can get me to Rome, Naples, Bologna, Venice and Milan

Ryanair has quite a few more stops including Brindisi, Bari, Pescara, Perugia and Palermo

Now the only place I have ever been to in Italy is Trieste so thats one to count out (don't get me wrong i liked it) . The one that stands out for me from the list is Venice. Seems like a nice relaxing place to bring your significant other. I checked out Hostel world and found some nice budget hotels. I'm too poor for anything more high end (do you feel sorry for me?).

So i think I'm gonna go for it, all in all for 2 people its gonna cost me about €500 including flights and accomadation so not bad at all really.

If in Italy and in need of a rental car, remember to check out the car hire Italy service from Argus
