I was just reading a very interesting article on the Argus Blog about proposals for a Disneyland type theme park for Rome. What is the mayor thinking?!

As any parent will know, no theme park is a match for a child's imagination! Having visited Rome recently with two little ones, I can safely say that Disneyland has nothing on the historical attractions to be found in the eternal city. The kids marvelled at Michaelangelo's upside down masterpiece in the Sistine chapel and were mesmerised by stories of gladiators in battle at the Colosseum.

We packed up the car at 11am and made our way past the madding crowds of the city centre. We stumbled upon a few small trattorias in the Tuscan hills. Now this was Italy. The pasta was fresh (not frozen), the pizzas were stone-baked (again not frozen) and the waiting staff seemed to be genuinely hospitable. With our bellies full, we headed back to the hills to discover the watercoloured landscapes and tunble-down castles and forts. There were some amazing picture-postcard views to be had here and we certainly ran up the memory card with shots of rolling farmland, sun-dappled vineyards and time-wizened olive groves.
